The Air Cadets, as a military youth organization, sets itself and its members very high standards, including dress and behaviour. Drill is a vital part of encouraging team work.
The Air Cadet Organization encourages teamwork and well disciplined cadets among many things.
Drill (marching) is a vital part of encouraging teamwork. When a group of twenty cadets walk on to a drill square they are all individuals, but as soon as a session of drill begins the cadets become a team, following the orders given by one person. Instead of twenty individual feet hitting the ground, there is only one bang-this is the result of practise and teamwork. The drill squad for 2359 (Woolton) squadron train regularly throughout the year in preparation for field training day as well as other local events.
Drill is also used to move cadets from one place to another in a smart orderly fashion. This shows civilians and member of the forces just how well disciplined the cadets of the Air Training Corps are.
Cadets at Woolton participate in various forms of drill, some of which include:-
Foot Drill
Basic Drill _ Quick & Slow Time
Banner Drill
Ceremonial Parades
The cadet NCO's are all involved in passing on there knowledge and experience to other cadets, including taking a flight of cadets for basic drill. It may even include carrying the squadron banner for major events and parades.
All cadets at Woolton will do basic drill on a parade night including a parade at the end of the evening. Every cadet is taught from the the first night how to do drill and is trained to be the smartest and best they can be. The drill training has led to Woolton finishing in the top 4 at the drill competition for the past 2 years, as well as finishing 3rd in the banner drill last year. |
